Marriage, the Bible, and its Context

9:21:00 pm

There are times when we declare that the Bible is as relevant today as it is 2000 years ago. And there are another times when we tell others that understanding the context is undoubtedly necessary as you read it. The problem is whether the context is made up by us for our own sake or it is what it is.

I found out that investing is a nearly accurate metaphor of marriage. Every investment is risky, either it's low or high. High risk - high return; if you dare to lose big, then there's a chance you'll gain big. Well, this is the most favorable business model, right? Marriage can be symbolized as so. Yes, it gives you opportunity to the better and more joyful life, yet at the same time it won't avoid you from pain (in fact, it can BE the source of pain). Furthermore, it requires you and your partner's hardwork to let your marriage grow in a healthy way.

The idea of marriage could be great (and it's created to be!) if you know that it's risky AND you're willing to work hard to MINIMIZE the risks. There's no way you can run away from the risks, as there's no investment with zero risk as well.

And then comes the biblical values, that every Christian should obey and live their lives according to. Now that there are different circumstances of today's compared to the Bible's, we question the relevance of the biblical values. And yeah, we already have some reasons to--you guys might say--justify our excuses.
